Accenta House Alarm

My parents have recently moved, and the house they've moved into has an Accenta alarm control panel at the bottom of the stairs, and two bell-boxes on the front and back of the house.
The previous owners "lost" the manual, and haven't even bothered to tell my parents the alarm code. This is all well and good (fortunately the alarm is disabled at the moment), but what if something goes wrong?
Does anyone know anything about these alarms? How can we tell what model they have? What's my chances of finding a manual?! (slim, I know)
All the previous owners told them was that it was "fitted by a mate who worked for the company on the outside box" (the box on the front of the house has a Luton telephone number on it and a name). So very helpful...
I think the idea is to get rid of the alarm, but there appears to be varying wiring throughout the house which Dad thinks is linked to the alarm system (Dad is an electrician but is loathe to disconnect anything in case he sets the thing off). What's the best approach of removing these things (assuming I can't find an instruction manual....)??

Accenta alarms are quite common so you should be able to get hold of a manual fairly easily.
There are some here for a start.
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/DataSheets/Ade/Index.htm
The number should be on the inside of the panel, but it will trigger the alarm if you open it. Do you have the arm / disarm code ? if so then all you do is use the code to switch off the alarm once you have triggered it.
To reset and reprogram you will need the engineer code which will be provided in the manual unless the previous occupant changed it of course.0 -
No codes whatsoever... which was pretty much in line with everything else that the previous owners left (ie nothing)...
Thank you for the link to the TLC site, I shall have a look through and see whether or not the info's there that I require.
I'm trying to avoid a callout from an alarm specialist, given that my parents have already paid out aplenty sorting other problems in the house that was left for them...

Alarm panel,
you dont say which model it is? number?/
If, its not working and there is no power indicator lit, then it would be safe to open the panel. If the panel still has mains to it and its powered then you will need to contact the manufacturer. Most panels have a factory reset. Some ade panels have a none volotile memory reset where you power down the panel and remove power from the battery (via connector) and then place a jumper wire across certain terminals by inserting the wire jumper it re sets the memory back to its default settings. Once you are back to the default settings then and only then does the manual become usefull because in the manual it will only have the factory acess codes for both engineer and user.
you could try technical service department of your alarm panel company which I think if its ade it may well be honeywell. here is the download page for accenta panels but make sure you know which one it is
http://www.honeywell-security.co.uk/documentation.cfm?solution=residential
if you ring the manufacturer on the above website and ask how to default your panel back to factory settings.

Aha....
We have located the actual Alarm panel, which is an Accenta 6. The only box we'd seen before that was the keypad. So, currently I know:
The keypad has two power buttons - one with 'day' illuminated and a power one. The control panel (in the airing cupboard, of all places) I haven't yet touched...
There are no codes - arm/disarm, factory, nothing supplied with the alarm...
So the thoughts are that I should try and contact a firm to get everything reset (given that there's power to the control panel and keypad), or should I suggest dad attempts a reset once we've found the manual?
Apologies for being so fussy, but I do want to get this sorted for them, but not at the expense of a blaring alarm!!!
