Tax Credits confusion

Hi all,

Would be very grateful for any advice here...

I sent off my claim form on the 14/02/2011 and it was received on the 22/02/11.
I have called up today to see how things were going with it, and the lady on the phone told me that there is a problem as the system is finding me on somebody else's claim as a child... Even though I was claiming tax credits from October - December 2010. I know for a fact that nobody is claiming tax credits for me as a child, for a start I haven't been in education since 2009... So this has confused me greatly!
How can this have not popped up on my claim last year, but has on this one...
She said that she had put a referral in but this could take up to 7 days to process, so leave it until next week to chase any more.

Is she just saying this to get me off their case about my claim?!!?!

TIA

I've never heard of them saying that so if it is just to get you off their case then I'd be suprised.

Are you sure no-one else is claiming and just hasn't informed them? (Can't think of any other reason why they would say this)

Hopefully someone else will have some advice for you but if not I'd contact them in 7 days like they've asked, not much else you can do to be honest.

It may just be that your name and dob have flagged on a claim from when someone did claim for you. If you have had a tax credit claim previously it would have flagged up then but the the system may have sorted it without you even knowing. When the advisor told you the timescale they would just have been following their script - there is nothing to stop you chasing it up before then but they are just warning you in advance that they might not be able to give you any further update.
  • Ok, thanks for all the replies. I had to wait 3 months the last time I claimed to receive any payment, hope it isn't the same this time!

maybe thats what the delay was last time? did you ask why it took so long last time? x
  • I was told that it was because they had to do all of the checks from DLA etc.

Do you guys think that it will take the 4 weeks they have stated, or do you think it will come through earlier? Anybody know how long they are currently taking to process things? I know they always say that it will take 3 weeks, but it never really does! Lol.
Thanks for all the replies :)
