Virgin Credit Card Offer 7.9% Purchases for life

I have paid all my credit cards off in January but Virgin did not close their account. However when I rang to close they put through to card retention line and said as Ive been a good customer for 10 years with MBNA I can keep Virgin card with 7.9% purchase rate for life a ploy to keep me or worth keeping as an emergency card they also said they would transfer the other credit limits onto the card so would have a limit of about 10K - thoughts please ?

Personally, I'd get it in writing and then keep for emergencies0
