Including a Strong Named Driver to bring premium down

Add a second person to an under-25s / high risk drivers insurance

Insuring someone aged under 25 can cost a fortune. Yet by adding a second driver with a good record to the insurance, even if they won't use the car often, it can smooth out the average risk and sometimes reduce the premium. It won't always work, but it’s worth playing with quotes to check.

However at no point should you add your name as the main driver on a younger driver’s policy instead of them. This is known in the industry as fronting and is fraud. When you come to claim, this will often be checked out and your insurance will be invalidated

Looking for my first policy on my own(always been a named driver), and despite being 26 with 9 years of a clean license, i must be viewed as a high risk driver as following Martins advice above i have included a family member with a good history on to my lowest qoute as a named driver and this has brough it down some 10%.

My question is, is their any pitfalls to doing this? In anyway, will it effect my NCD having a named driver on my policy?

Also... what would stop me(or anyone) from including a named driver with an even better history on to their insirance policy if it being them greater discount?

Thanks

You need to be sure that you can trust your named driver to tell you all about any convictions or driving incidents which he/she is involved in both before and after they are named on your policy, and that you inform your insurer of these as required by the policy.

Having named drivers on your policy doesn't affect NCD.

You can put anyone on your policy as a named driver as long as they are acceptable to your insurer.

    Thanks,

I do not intend including someone else, my family member will do. Seems so odd that it makes my insurance cheaper if i include someone as a named driver. I bet so many first time insureres are no aware of this little loophole

The more you add the cheaper it gets. I have two named drivers on my policy and that brought the premium down quite a bit.

It makes sense. I was added to my boyfriend's policy, and therefore could take over when he was tired/ill/had a drink. The more people who can drive your car, the less likely you are to be driving it whilst not fully capable.
