Replacement USB ports for a Emachines e525

Anybody know where I can get hold of 2 replacement usb ports for an emachines e525 laptop. Both of them are damaged and I can't seem to get replacements

You can buy the individual sockets at CPC - it'll be one of these in the link below. However you'll need to find a shop to change it unless you're OK at taking the laptop apart, desoldering the broken ones and fitting the new ones. Sounds complicated but for those who can solder and take things apart, its not. However there is the possibility that when they got damaged it blew the USB controller which is pretty much new mainboard time. The part is actually about £1 each and the repair no more than a couple of hours so you'd be looking around £70-£80 for the job.

The biggest problem though is finding a shop that does proper component level repairs. Most who do repairs just swap whole units out.

Anyway, here's a list of USB sockets - it'll be one of the single A type PCB mount ones but without having the machine here to examine, I can't tell you which one

I have the same problem with my machine, both of the USB ports are broken. I think it must be a common problem with E525s. How did you rectify it?

Err, no they're not. Acer have been using them in the laptops they build for years.

the socket are reverse conections so whenthe socket is held upstide down the socket plugs in the right way
