    Hi,

We qualified initially for free insulation being BG dual fuel customers. The BG person came round today to check if our house was suitable. Our house was built in the 1930's; it is partially pebble dashed, and the bricks that are showing are local engineered bricks (which are apparently are harder to drill through). Any way when the person drilled through a hole into the brickwork, he found that there was not sufficient cavity space, so we now don't qualified. I got the impression that having a house that is partially rendered does present some problems. I found the person that came round to be honest and informative.

has anybody been cold called by someone saying they are trying to locate people who qualify for government grant for loft insulation and cavity wall insulation

I didn't stay on the phone long enough to find out whether it was a utility company, loft insulation company or indeed to ask where they got my phone number from.

A friend of mine applied for this deal, apparently if you have anymore than about 2" of loft insulation you cant have it!
