    If they haven't written to you, I wouldn't even do that. Stuff 'em. Get the 'prove it' letter and keep it handy so you can tweak it when they finally write. For now, and this part is important:

    DON'T PANIC.

    Seriously, if they can't even be bothered to write and tell you what it's about, they're not worth worrying about. If they turn up on your doorstep again, remember, they're just salesmen, trying to 'sell' you a debt. That's all. Tell them to go away and write to you to tell you what its about. Don't be intimidated by them, and don't enter into any drawn out arguments with them. Just "I'm sorry, I have no idea what this is about, but I'm only prepared to deal with it in writing. Please send me the details by post" and close the door. If they knock again, tell them that if they don't leave your property immediately, you'll call the police. Then close the door again.
