Wimbledon Ballot 2011

I hope this is the correct board to put this....
Today I recieved a letter from Wimbledon offering me two tickets [sucessful ballot entry] for Wed 29th June [2nd Wed of tournament] for Court 2.
Having previously a few years ago been offered two centre court tickets for ladies finals [ballot]- im probably a little spoilt!!
As greatful as I am to recieve these tickets for court 2.... I think ill have to decline, I live too far away to warrent expense of flights, hotel etc etc.
My question is: Has anyone declined ballot tickets before? and does that mean their name is removed from this years ballot for any future tickets? I dont want to seem greedy just realistic.
thanks

You could explain that due to unforeseen circumstances you will not be able to attend, that should be sufficient and not looked upon poorly.0

I think the whole point of the ballot is that it's luck of the draw. I think you only get one chance so if you decline I don't think you will be offered further tickets this year. I know what you mean: Court 2 doesn't sound great but you might still see some good tennis if you go...but probably not one of the big matches. You can always delcine to take the tickets this year (I seem to recall you just have to take up tickets by a certain date or they are automatically relinquished and reallocated) and try again next time in the hope of landing something better. They must expect that some people will not be able to make the dates offered so can't believe it would count against future ballot options....though someone here may know better!
I think for some people the whole experience of being there is enough (at least), especially since the big matches are relayed on the screen to Henman Hill/Murray Mount! We've had opening day (defending champs) and quarter finals on Centre court and wouldn't have missed either but day two court two might not be worth a long journey for some!Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0 -
If you don't want to go then you don't have to do anything. By not paying for the tickets by the due date you automatically relinquish them. They go back into the draw and will be offered to someone else who wasn't successful in the first round. Tickets not taken up are constantly being redrawn right up to the championships. However, by declining to take up the tickets offered your name will be removed from the draw, so you can't expect to be offered alternative tickets more to your liking.
You don't get blacklisted though so can apply still apply for next year's tournament. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Although Centre Court tickets are better of course... this year Court 2 should be good too as it will be played on a brand new court, arena set up, more spectators so they should put top players there too....A friend is a present which you give yourself (R.Stevenson)

Thank you all for the replies and taking an interest in my thread.
I hope I did not sound ungrateful- its just once I factor in flights accomodation etc it works out an expensive few days.
If I had not been to Wimbledon b4, I would have jumped at the tickets no question for "the experience" but Ive already had the thoroughly enjoyable experience first time round.
I telephoned the ticket office and as expected you only get one try at the ballot and if you decline /let go your allocated tickets thats your opperunity for that year. The tickets are re balloted.
I looked up 2010 fixtures for 2nd Wed of tournament and it was mens and mixed doubles. I wasnt aware no 2 court was being re vamped. How would I find out whats on on my day?
thanks again for the suggestions0 -
It's always worth entering the ballot - I've been doing so for years and more often than not I've been allocated some tickets. Not taking them up doesn't affect applications in following years

This year however, I have hit the jackpot and been allocated tickets for the Men's Singles Final :j:j:j:j
It still hasn't quite sunk in!0 -
Congratulations!
Def luck of draw.
Have you declined tickets previously? did you contact them or just not make the payment by the set date?0 -

You don't need to contact them to decline tickets, you just don't send them payment by the set date and they automatically put your allocation back into the ballot.
There is an online payment facility now which is very useful.0 -

my first year entering the ballot. I have two court 1 tickets for second monday.
No chance of a Murray match but will get to watch men and woman play on the same court. Never wanted final tickets anyway they are very expensive and you get to see one match, i look forward to some great fourth round battles so pray for good weather.0
