Insurance Claim - Incidental Expenses

Good Afternoon,

We had a flood at home just before christmas, we live in a new build, and the plumber's insurance company have finally contacted me today to sort out the claim. (The builders rectified all immediate damages, carpets/flooring, hotel bill etc at the time of the flood)

I have provided a list to the insurance company which details all items damaged, and have priced everything up at their request.

I'm struggling to put in a claim for the incidental costs associated, which are:

Wasted water used ? burst fitting to pipe could have been pouring water out for anything up to 8 hours?

Gas - Central heating on full constantly day and night for 10 days

Electric - Cost of running dryers and dehumidifiers constantly - 5 units for 10 days at 2v (or watts or I don't know!!) each unit

6 x loads of washing and drying as my ironing pile was in cupboard under stairs. (I know, I know, I'll never learn!)

Additional mileage to place of temporary residence (1 mile away from where I live)

Additional mileage for running round (back and forward to house for washing/clothes/progress etc

I really don't know where to start...has anyone been in the same situation and had to cost all this?

Please Help! :o

Water - I would claim £10. Cost will be insignificant and they are unlikely to quibble with this amount.

    Gas - I would claim £20-£30.

Electric - Apply £5 per machine based on 24hrs usage and this is based on them being industrial sized.

Washing - I would claim £100.00 for this. If it had been done at a dry cleaners it would have been alot more

Mileage - work out how many miles in total and claim 40p a mile.
  • Thanks for that. I'm not sure the clothes cleaning costs would be acceptable, but all other stuff sounds good.

6 loads of washing plus all of the time spent ironing, definetly worth £100 in my opinion. I handle claims as a job and if you put that sum to me i would gladly accept it!!
