Low Cost or Innovative Marketing of New Business

I recently started a made to measure blinds business after working for the major national blind company for years as an agent. I've read some of the various threads with regards to advertising etc but I'd be interested to hear any innovative or different ways of gaining publicity or marketing etc as competing with the big boys on advertising is impossible even though I may offer a better and cheaper service. How have other people effectively marketed their products? I have advertised in a few local publications and the response hasn't matched the outlay. I see some people suggest leaflet drops but I'm not sure this business is suitable for this type of marketing. Any help or ideas greatfully received.

Advertising is only one form of marketing, and is the least cost effective. The cheapest and best (apparently) is networking meetings and recommendations as they cost nothing and can yield high results.0

How about getting in with local conservatory fitters and window fitters? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Make a massive blind and hang it over your premises to show just how custom they can be, might get you in the local paper or something..0

Give people an incentive to sign up to your auto responder online list. Offer them something that's avluable to them but little cost to you. If you can get people onto an autoresponder you can hit them with new offers every week, 2 weeks, monthly etc.0
