Getting a better insurance quote

Here's my home insurance renewal strategy, and is what I did with Aviva for the second year running, and they might hate me for sharing it. When I got my home insurance quote renewal, not only did I check the market for a better deal, but also went to Aviva's website and got a fresh quote (but without logging in; best of all don't even register online with them). If you have registered, put in a partner's name, or somebody else altogether, just to get the quote, as otherwise it will simply give you the renewal rate they already quoted you with. Then I rang them up with the new quote, and they equaled it. This way I got the quote down by 1/3, so quite a saving. So maybe this rate was meant as an introductory offer to newcomers, as apparently the contents cover came for free, the idea being that Aviva try and make the real money out of you come the renewal. But then you just repeat the process to get the rate down again.
