We are looking to replace our toyota previa as its 14 years old so need a newer car than the one we have, we arent sure what car to go for though, need big boot space and to seat 5-6 people, budget will be £5000
Hubby made a list of cars that we may think of getting, either chrysler grand voyager, volkswagon touran, newer previa than the one we have or a kia sedona, he did think of a verso but think thats a bit out of our price range, will be a used car
Not sure what other cars we could look at, any advice would be great, thanks

I would suggest going for a newer Previa. Good vehicles.0

First of all, forget the Voyager. With model years of the value that your looking at, N-CAP has declared this car to be the least safest car they have EVER tested. It didn't even score one star.princess_pixiedust wrote: »We are looking to replace our toyota previa as its 14 years old so need a newer car than the one we have, we arent sure what car to go for though, need big boot space and to seat 5-6 people, budget will be £5000

Secondly, do not narrow your options just yet. Consider the the Toyota Previa again. Think about the 2.0 D-4D T Spirit probably one of the largest MPV's on the market today. The T Spirit comes with cruise control, climate control, privacy glass, strong possibility of satellite navigation system, 3 point seat-belts on all seats, sliding seats and storage space enough to fit the kitchen sink. You should be able to pick a 02 plate with 80,000 miles on the clock for about £6,250.
Then there's Citroen C8 Exclusive. It's got loads of space and is packed full of extras, including; electric rear sliding side doors, automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers, cruise control, climate control, automatic retractable door mirrors, chilled glove box, parking sensors, loads of airbags and Alcantara upholstery, plus many, many more (you maybe lucky to find one with the interactive satellite navigation package with built in mobile phone system). You could find an 54/05 plate 2.0HDi with 50/60,000 miles on the clock, for under £5,995.
The Galaxy 1.9 TD Ghia 150ps has: heated windscreen, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, climate control. They are going for about £5,750 with about 60,000 on a 54/05 plate.
In terms of reliability, the Toyota would always come out on top. But it is a weildly feeling car and tends to lumber. Insurance premiums are likely to be a little higher than the rest (although I suspect you know this already). The Citroen is not the fasted vehicles on the block, but is packed with lots of extras and is very good value for money. The Galaxy, appears to be the more powerful in terms of horse power, but lacks a little in terms of refinement. The engine tends to labour at the higher end and is more thirsty.
My personal thoughts would be for the Citroen. Although it does not have the reliability reputation of the Toyota, you will probably save a few pounds on the initial outlay. There are bargains to be found if you are prepared to look, as well as maybe finding someone who was kind enough to add a few of their own extras as well. I particularly liked the Alcantara upholstery. It is a sort of hard wearing, but very comfortable, faux suede.
These are just a few thoughts to get you on your way. There will be no doubt many who disagree with me, but there we are.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
If you are happy with a petrol motor, consider a Honda Stream. Comfortable, drives well on road or motorway. Cam is chain drive so no belt to change.
I think they were discontinued in 2004 so you should find one well under your budget. I have a Y reg which now has about 90k with no major problems.0
