Wedding Pack Lunch

Hello

I was just wondering if anyone has had a wedding pack lunch. So every guest has a lil bag of food - rather than a buffet/set meal.

Their isnt going to be enough room at our reception to have a big buffet table and their wont be enough room on each table for the food either. So I was thinking this would be a good idea, plus could all be made up the night before and kept in the chiller. And it would be cheaper!

What does everyone think?Would you eat a packlunch if you went to a wedding?

I have to confess I would find it a bit weird. Are you sure you cant find the space for the food on the tables, each table have a couple of platters or something?

I went to a wedding where we picnic'd in the park afterwards and there were several picnic blankets to sit on and each one had a lovely hamper. That worked because of the setting but if you are in a room I dont think anything other than a buffet table or platters on the individual tables would work.

unless anyone else has any ideas?

I guess the first thing to say is its your wedding and your decision what you go dor in terms of food for your guests.

Whilst it wouldn't be a conventional choice to have a bag...I think done well it might be a quirky thing...

However what would bother me is having to sit with it on my lap...and possibly balance a drink as well...possibly what I may be trying to say is that if you cant fit your guests in comfortably then your venue may be too small...or that you need to reduce your guests to fit the venue.

What are you planning food wise to put in the bags...?

We had a lovely wedding at the club where i work and on each table was a picnic basket with all sorts in it and everyone loved it. They let everyone sit down and had some girls bring out the baskets when they where ready for them. They got the baskets and chopping boards from IKEA and didnt cost them much and everyone was talking about it for ages after

I think this might be the best way to do it as I think baskets would look nicer than bags.

  • Hi! Lunch bags could be quite nice but we are doing the picnic basket thing too :D Our wedding will have a laid back, garden party style vibe so its appropriate for style of the day. The baskets will be filled with all kinds of yummy home made food and hopefully all our guests will enjoy it! We're probably doing each hamper for 4 or 6 people
  • It wouldnt be my cup of tea for my wedding but If its what you want and suits your budget better then I think you should go for it. Ive been to loads of weddings where half the buffet is still there at the end of the night which is such a waste of food and money. As a guest, I would eat whatever I was provided with. It would be exceptionally bad manners to do anything else and the bottom line is your guests will be there to see you and your new husband - not to get fed.

I think that quote says everything you need to know. If you are 'quirky' (lol your words) then everyone who you're inviting will know that you are 'quirky' and will therefore expect 'quirkiness' at your wedding. Indeed some may feel disappointed if you aren't 'quirky'.

While I can't claim to be quirky - I am known for being very laid back and relaxed. For that reason I'm having a very laid back and relaxed affair - no speeches, no first dance, no formal sit down meal. If I suddenly went and did all of the traditional stuff noone would recognise it as my (our) wedding, and to be honest I think it'd make a lot of our guests feel uncomfortable.

:) My point? (Cor I waffle) - stay quirky!

would you not have room for a ploughmans lunch style platter in the middle? I wouldn't fancy someone telling me I had to have say a tuna sandwich, as I can't stand it, but some nice crusty bread, a good lump of cheese, some nice ham and various pickles would probably keep most guests happy! (I'm hungry now!)
