You could always hedge your bets and not tell the landlord straight away. Wait until you go bankrupt and when you get to speak to the OR -explain your concerns and ask whether they plan to contact your LL - if they say yes then you probably want to tell your LL first but if the OR says no then think about whether you want to tell your LL or not.
Clearly honesty is normally the best policy but I can understand your reluctance given what you've said about the previous tenants.

What sort of tenancy agreement do you have? I believe that most are 6 month AST's and it's likely he would not be able to make you leave before then and generally he is required to give you 2 months notice.
I know this doesn't really help as you have no real way of knowing how your LandLord will react but you could go over to the housing baord and they can tell you what sort of tenancy you have and what notice the landlord has to give you.
If you are not good enough for this landlord then I'nm sure you can find someone who doesn't care about past mistakes/circumstancs but only cares that you look after the house and pay the rent on time.
I wish you luck and hope that things get settled and sorted soon for you.

You've done the right thing by asking for advice
If you haven't yet done so, I'd strongly advise you to speak to one of the free Debt Advice organisations. They'll be able to look at your individual circumstances and give you tailored advice.
Good luck :T:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
It might also be worth contacting Shelter re the housing situation who can advise you on your rights.

Thank you:cool: it was an AST on 6 months, weve been here 7 now and its gone onto a rolling tenancy.LL has been to the house and said we have it looking like a palace! He said as long as we pay the rent we can stay here for as long as we like.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member 416

Good luck :T
Thanks, I spoke to CCCS and National Debtline who advised Bankruptcy as my only option as no money left over for a DMP.
As it stands, its probably going to take me about 3-4 months to scrape the fees together so I hope that goes in our favour with the LL who will see a history of a years worth of rent on time and well kept house.
Surely it would be more hassle for him to serve notice while we are still good tenants?DMP Mutual Support Thread Member 416
