Hiya Livinginhope.....
Thanks for reply
Oh, I haven't paid council tax for months cos I haven't had the cash, been concentrating on loans an credit cards.....
I'll redo my budget to include everything, and I'll post it tomorrow.
Just feel that all I think about is my lack of money....it's on my mind all the time..:o
My son is 18, works part time, and attends college full time, since turning 18 he has had many many letter offering him credit cards, I've told him credit cards are evil and never to get one....... cos you don't have the money in your hand it just so easy to spend on tick.... wish I had listened to my mother now....All going to plan I'll be debt free March 2010....3 years and counting... :T0 -

I think this is concerning. Council Tax is a priority debt and must be paid first along with keeping a roof over your head. CT can be demanded straight away and the consequences of not paying it are much worse than of not paying a loan/cc. Please call one of the charities soon and focus your efforts on your priority bills/debts before anything else.Leason learnt :beer:0 -

i'm sure there must loads of places online where you can advertise for free..https://www.gumtree.com for example.
good luck with it all!:heart2:

I think your best course of action is to contact payplan/CCCS/national debtline or CAB. Any of these agencies are free and are recognised by all the creditors.
I think livinginhope is absolutely right. You do need a proper SOA (see Martin's budget planner for what to include) that breaks down living expences from debts. You will find that useful in the long term as it's will be good to know how much your living is costing away from the debt repayments.
Please keep posting your progress - you are doing great to face it all!
Thanks.....
I will def keep you posted on what is happening with me, you have all been so helpful......All going to plan I'll be debt free March 2010....3 years and counting... :T0 -

Don't know why I see council tax as something I can aviod....... oh what shall I do, cancel DD to loans and credit cards and pay chunk of council tax.......All going to plan I'll be debt free March 2010....3 years and counting... :T0 -
Just wanted to say I agree with moozie, you MUST pay the council tax,you could go to prison for non payment. As already said, try not to worry too much about the debts at this stage, the most important thing is getting together a manageable budget, then seeing what is left.Debt at highest £102k

I would cancel DDs and maybe even open a new account somewhere else not connected to any creditors.
Then I would contact the council, tell them the situation as it is and they will work something out with you,BTW what are your arrears? council tax is as important as your mortgage, you cannot avoid it.Just thought, are you the only adult in your house? if you are you may be entitled to council tax benefit.Debt at highest £102k

You think I should open a new bank account and setup all essiantal bills to the new account?
What about loans and CC? blank them until I get myself organised with Payplan?
Council Tax arrears are about £800, I did contact council to explain situation but they just told me to pay what I could, and that there is nothing they can do for me, just have to take consequence. Not very helpful :sad:All going to plan I'll be debt free March 2010....3 years and counting... :T0 -
I have made an approximate calculation for your income/expenditure.
I’ve calculated your gross wage as £174/week. Net £153.52.
Child Tax Credit £78.26
Working Tax Credit £36.33
I’ve allowed for water charges, food, and petrol/car tax that you hadn’t in your post. And this is your income – expenditure.
You actually do not have enough income to offer anything to your creditors. Do you really need the car? The car costs are sucking up most of your money. How about changing the phone to pay & go? Can you get your insurance costs down?
I suggest that you go to CAB for a proper I/E. Take your wage slips, CTC/WTC award details and details of your debts.0 -
YES and do it right away council tax is one of the top priorites, they will send the bailiffs around to collect unless you contact them and come to an agreement now.debtCollector wrote:Don't know why I see council tax as something I can aviod....... oh what shall I do, cancel DD to loans and credit cards and pay chunk of council tax.......Mutual Supporters club member (Nov 2006)
