help- conservatory blinds!

please help with some advise.
I have a rather large conservatory on the back of my house 8 mtrs x 2.5mtrs and its cold in the winter and boiling in the summer, been advised blinds may help but cant afford the silly amount ive been quoted from blind companies?? any advise on cheapest way of doing it ourselves?
also the roof is clear plastic so what would we put up there??

How much do you consider expensive? I have verticals fitted in mine and they were a lot cheaper (and IMO look a lot better) than pleated or the "perfect fit" types. I don't think blinds make much of a temperature difference though, no matter what the manufacturers claim.

There's various options for the roof but I wouldn't recommend any of them.

We could have bought ours and fitted them ourselves from John Lewis for a fraction of the cost £1000 vvs £300. We were fortunate in that our windows were a standard size. We chose roller blinds in a woven/hessian fabric. Hillarys were the cheapest we could find but having watched the bloke install them any competent DIYer could have done them
