Anybody know what time Halifax rolls over to the next day?

I only ask because I was under the impression it was around 3am.

Was checking online the other night (just after midnight), and it had already rolled over to the next day.

Anybody got any idea?

  • My cheque was meant to be available on Friday but funds were not available at 8am that morning but was available when I checked again at midday. Strange.

I thought it changed at midnight (12.01am) but if it's changed earlier in the evening, as you point out, it could be because of the weekend

NB Aren't they supposed to be falling into line with Lloyds' times next month - which are 10.01pm Mon-Fri?

  • Don't know if it is related, but on the quick pay-in post boxes it says that if anything is put in after 4.00pm it will be credited the next day - whether it is just because they don't empty it after that I don't know. Banking day always used to end at 3.30pm ages ago, but my credit card rolls to the next month at 6.00pm on the last day of the statement month.

Cheques are not available to withdraw against until after 10am on the "available" date.
  • 3am is when the accounts update but cheques appear to clear later no doubt as above post.

Strictly cheques take 6 bank working days to "clear", most banks let you withdraw against them after 3/4 working days however they can still "bounce" out of the account up until the 6th working day after it was deposited.

You could withdraw the funds, then find that if the cheque has bounced then your account could end up in an unarranged overdraft. The majority of cheques I would imagine are processed promptly but don't forget cheques are collected from one bank, sent to a sorting office via courier and then processed by each bank. It only takes a delay in the cheques getting to one department for the cheque fate to be delayed e.g. bad weather or courier problems for example.
  • typically between 3am-6am to roll over

Once my pay went in between midnight and 1am with Halifax. I remember because I was out drinking! Went to cash machine and there it was!

Usually you should see payments by 8.30am...
