Posting a cheque to NatWest

Hi,

Can I pay in a cheque by posting it to my local branch? Should I just send it in an envelope with a paying-in slip?

Thanks

  • if you have a paying in book or slip, complete it, send with the cheque and a covering letter. I used to ask for a phone call to confirm when it was paid in, which they always did...that was about 20 years ago tho!!

I often stick them in my bank's letterbox and write the sort code and account number I wish to pay into on the back of a cheque. In an envelope with cheques for deposit written on.

If I have time or can be bothered I sometimes write a letter along the lines of
please deposit the enclosed cheque for £x.xx into my account sort code aa-bb-cc a/c no. 12345678. Sometimes I scrawl it on the envelope!

never had a problem yet - the cheque always shows as paid in on the next working day (on the internet banking)

    I usually hand-deliver the cheque.

Post offices take cheques for deposit for some banks, although I believe its not a quick service. Don't know if NatWest's one of them, though.
