Hi
I have just got an old standard lamp from Freegle. It came complete with shade and bulb and was in working order and is fitted with a 13amp fused plug, I have removed the part of the fitting that holds the shade in place but the top fitting is as shown below.. Is this style up to current standards or should I get it replaced with a modern fitting?
Sorry for stupidly large pic, will delete it as soon as I get a response or manage to reduce the size, whichever is soonest!
Thank you!

I have got it, I unscrewed it and I'm currently fighting to loosen it from the old lampshade it is fitted round. I think it must be cross-threaded though as it will tighten up, but just goes round and round when I try to separate it to get the shade out. Any tips?

itll probably be ok as long as you use an earth wire of course. ie 3 core flex.
but i would change it for a modern plastic fitting. far less dangerous.Get some gorm.0 -
Thank you, I think I will have to take it and have the fitting replaced as I can't unscrew the collar from the top bit to release the shade anyway.
Cheers!0 -
If it is a distinctly 'period' lamp and you want to retain any character and don't fancy white plastic fitting and lead you can also get reproduction light fittings and flexes.0

I hate to say it but B N Q stock various sizes of threaded metal lampholders for a few quid each, they also do the gold coloured flex etcYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

Thank you both for the suggestions. My B&Q is 3 minutes away and a gold coloured fitting would be much better. It already has an extremely long gold coloured flex0
