garage have messed up V5 for my car.....

I think !!!

when i bought the car in january it had 2 previous owners making me the third.

anyway when sorting out the paperwork the garage stamped the new owner bit and sent it off, i sent off the bit for my car i p/x to say i had sold the car.

last week i had a new v5 in the post , only it wasnt from the dvla it was from the garage i bought the car from, they had registered the car to them instead of me.

so i had to fill in this new v5 to show im the registered owner which has obviously added another previous owner to the car too.

have i got the right to complain?? will it affect when i come to sell the car having another owner on it.

cheers

steve

You do have the right to complain however did the car have a private reg on it when you bought it?

The last time I p/x a car the dealer changed the address (not the owner) to Mr Kilty C/O Scumbag Motors Ltd at their premises address. Didn't add an owner. They did this so that the new V5 would go to them when the original plate had been put back on the car.
  • hi thanks for the replies.

the car is now in my name as the garage sent me the v5 showing it was registered to them for me to fill in and send onto the dvla.

so instead of showing 2 previous owners its now showing 3.

it wasnt on a private plate either!

I'd not get hung up about the number of former keepers.

whe you sell, you just list on the ad that it was registered to the garage in error
they will show as the last owner on the V5 anyway

TBH it makes no difference to the value anyway - I find it hard to believe I'd get more for my car if it wasn't pre-registered before the first owner bought it (I'm the 2nd/3rd)

I'd be tempted not to take it any further.. then you'd never have to worry about a parking ticket / PPC again
  • Indeed it is no big deal after all the V5 is only the registered keeper which means that the person on the V5 may not be the owner the bill of sale and/or finance agreement is more important as that is prove to ownership title.

The number of registered keepers on the V5 will not affect the vehicles value.

The number of registered keepers on the V5 will not affect the vehicles value.

That would be dependent on the next potential buyer surely?
