You haven't seen how much stuff we have aquired over the years, the loft is jam packed. Never move from a 4 to a 3 bedroomed house unless you have a clear out first.
It's surprising how much you get for things on ebay.
I put some of those Lego Star Wars toys on that were free with the Daily Mirror and got £10+ in total for 4 of those!
I've seen items go for absolutely ridiculously high prices on eBay, but equally have bought items for ridiculously low prices. Currently there seems to be a lot of items not selling.
I know what you mean about acquiring stuff, most of our unwanted/surplus is unsaleable though. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

That is what I thought, give it a try on a free listing day and see if any of it shifts.0 -
When I worked for a book-keeper one of our clients was an ebay seller with a turnover well in excess of this. She bought and sold large volumes of small value items, largely from China and surrounds. In our local newspaper this week there is a story about 2 brothers who have grown a business selling wellies on ebay, here's a link to the story:

My advice would be to make sure you keep records right from the start, e.g. purchase invoices and receipts. This will make it much easier if you do manage to grow your business. Once you hit the VAT threshold they will have no mercy if you do not have records.

Totally agree with AzinScot on that one, regarding playing fair and te low quality of products. The trouble is, we appear to have come to expect and accept low quality and snide products stuff because they are cheap. As for HMRC getting involved I think that ebay could do a lot more to pass on details.
I have always maintained that you have to have money to make money. You need a reasonable amount of money to buy the stock, at reasonable discount to make the profit margin worth while. Also if you can visit the suppliers in situ, than makes buying from them less troublesome regarding quality.

Any mums out there who want to make a bit of pin money on ebay, remember you can list 100 items a month without paying any listing fees.
They must be auction format and not have a start price of more than 99p.
I know it isn't a lot to some on here but if you manage to make £5 a day you will have about £1500 allowing for days without listing on holiday etc to spend at Christmas.
I am aiming for £35 per week and plan to transfer £150 from my Paypal account on the first day of each month ie money from my previous months sales. Hopefully I will have £1800 in my B/S account at the end of the year.
It's surprising what you will find that will sell around the house that you may have been ready to bin!
I do this to, well maybe not every day but go though a e bay week normally every month. With two little boys around the house they grow out/ dont need stuff so quickly. Just for other people info some stuff I sold in Jan that I never thought would, used baby bottles baby only used them for about a week baby didnt get on with them, a old rain cover for a pushchair I dont own, a used yogart maker.
An of course things like dvds also baby clothes are a bit hit an miss.
I kind of see it as I have to walk past the post office to do play school run anyway so even if I only make £1 an item an do this 10 times a week that's an extra £10 for stuff I would of thrown out anyway in jan i made about 125. feb i did not do any trying to get some motivation to do some instead of posting on here lol0 -

If there is, I would like to hear from you, if only to confirm it can be done
Amazon is better and i used to sell on Ebay.com but now i dont even shopping on there now too much problems with ebay and paypal is a nightmere to work with if you have disputes,
if you have any technicial skills online such as web design or can make a certain website or blog then write a review on a product such as a electricial applicances or Gadgets (Ipod nano) and make a creative blog then join the affiliates program with amazon. Try not to sell on the blog just be descriptive and offer sound advice, what you like about the item,It disavantages and whats a better model ect for cheaper price ect,Just think of how many people online are looking for infomation not the cack of buy the xxx which everyone gets bombarded with by google sites,
and with the supplied links by amazon your user (which i cannot show here being affiliate links) The chances are you wont make around 1500 a month but have made around 550-700 monthly commision fees while at paypal and ebay i have paid out more in fees!
This way is a lot better because- you do not deal with outlay and are promoting products from a major relatlier
- you do not need to look for suppliers
- any refunds or purchases are handled by amazon. meaning less stress just make sites and be honest.
