Just received an annual statement from British Gas concerning my Central Heating Contract.
They say they have improved the agreement for Free by adding an insurance policy against accidental damage.
Why then have they increased the annual charge from £253.94 to £263.78?
That’s a 3.9% increase!

Don't forget that 2.5% of that increase will probably be due to the rise in VAT.

There’s a note at the bottom of the statement.
They say that the NEW annual charge will not change unless there is an increase in VAT in which case they will write and let me know.

Is this breakdown cover? If so, I'd say you would be able to get similar, or better, cover for less than you are currently paying.

Also, there was a bit of a scandal within the industry as British Gas were advertising their cover that included an annual service, however, that service was only a visual check.
