Please help!!! Plastering query!

I decided to redecorate my hall, stairs and landing yesterday. There was previously tongue and groove wood panneling half way up the walls, this came off now problem and left no mess, there was wallpaper underneath. I started to steam the wall paper off, which all came off brilliantly and left nice smooth plaster underneath, there is a bit of paint which would just need sanding off.
Anyway, today i thought i would just steam off the last few bits of paper I had missed, I started on my outside wall and heard a big crack - there is a chunck of plaster come away with lots of crack lines around it, if we started to sand this down I am sure the plaster would just crumble.

Can anyone help me at all? I know I will have to get a plasterer in but my question is, will they patch up or will they want to do the whole wall? I dont know how much would come off if i brushed it or anything. Its a massive wall which goes from my hall floor to my landing ceiling, I dread to think how much it would cost to plaster the lot. Do plastered patch up?

the plasterer will decide how much more to pull off. if the plaster has blown all over, itll all have to come off.
they wont remove any more than is required. theres no point in removing decent plaster. just patch it up.
but you cannot leave blown plaster up.
