I am not having a poem but we are lighting a candle at the church at the start of the service and the vicar will say:

On our special day, we would like to remember family members who we have loved and lost, you will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.

Mainly because anything more will have my H2B and I in floods of tears! We have two oasis arrangements that we are using in the church and one will be put on H2Bs grandparents grave by us immediately after the service, my mum will take the other one with her to my grandparents grave.

What a lovely idea, does anyone have a poem that could be used for people who are still with us but because of illness can't go to the wedding, my mum has alzheimers and is so bad that there is no way she can attend my daughters wedding but it would be lovely to show that we're still thinking of her.

I dont have a poem ....but you could wear a piece of her jewellery at the wedding thats what we did...my Gran was in a home and not really aware of the wedding but my sister wore a butterfly brooch of hers at my wedding so it felt that she was near

I'm going to propose a toast to "absent friends" when we have the champange. I know that if i get anymore specific than that we'll all be in tears!

I am carrying a small locket in my bouquet which will hold photos of my beloved gran and grandad and photos of my other gran and grandad and of daves grandad too but we will also mention them at the church. It breaks my heart that my Gran didn't get to see this day :(

You could have a candle made and lit next to a photo of them?

We had one, although didn't have pictures as it would have upset my husband too much.

He went to the cemetary on the morning of the wedding so he could have a chat with his Mum (she died when he was 8)

  • I absolutely love the idea of the candle dedicated to those dear ones not physically present on your happy day. if it helps at all
you can get printer friendly 'decal transfer' paper to make you own here http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/productlist.asp?catid=14&RootCatID=14 They also do one to go onto glass - so if you can't have candles at your venue, maybe you could have the wording on glasses and place those clever battery powered candles inside?
