Carers/Attendance any help please.

Hi

My pop is very ill has been in hospital last 3 weeks with pneumonia, he has 50% lung capacity, 25% heart, copd, emphasimia, asbestocis. to name a few!!!!:eek:

I hope he will be home in 2 weeks fingers crossed, I wish to care for him at home, he will need a lot of looking after.

I am about to be made redundant from work (so at least I will have a lot more time to care for him, without wearing myself out doing both) somebody mentioned I could get a carers allowance but then I read on here about attendance allowance, I dont understand any of these things to be honest, but would like my pop to get his full entitlement and anything I could get would help with petrol costs etc.....
he is 71 and gets his pensions

I would be most grateful for any advice

I have sent you a PM
  • Your Dad needs to apply for Attendance Allowance - the social worker at the hospital might be able to help with this.

If he is awarded it, then someone MAY claim Carers Allowance for him.
Depending on his personal circumstances - income, who else lives with him etc, you may find if someone is awarded Carers Allowance for him then his benefits would be reduced by the same amount.

That can be discussed once the AA has been awarded.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.
  • You can always call this organisation for advice too:

Only open certain days though, I found them useful. Can help advise you on local organisations and support.

    Good luck with it.

Are any of his illnesses caused by past employment?

If hes awarded attendance allowance he can claim constant attendance allowance if he gets industrial illness benefit and its a lot more money and you would still be able to claim carers allowance.
