JSA and free prescriptions?

I was made redundant just before Christmas and have been receiving JSA since the beginning of Jan, what I wanted to know but can't seem to find out is will I be eligible for free prescriptions and dental care?
Many thanks

  • As far as I am aware you are. But I live in Wales where prescriptions are free anyway :)
  • If your on income based JSA then yes.

  • You only get free prescriptions if you get income-based JSA (the means tested one), if you get contribution-based JSA (i.e. you've paid your NI stamps regularly) you don't... Luckily, as it turns out, I hadn't paid my stamp for a couple of years (I was paying it voluntarilly but figured I could stop paying it for a couple of years because I had a lot of years credited) and got income-based JSA (otherwise I just wouldn't have been able to afford prescriptions).
  • If you dont get income based JSA you may qualify for free prescriptions/NHS dental treatment on low income grounds-get a form HC11 from your jobcentre. If you qualify the certificate lasts 12 months even if you go back to work.
