Claiming when a car hits your fence.

If another car hit mine, I would inform my insurer and expect them to deal with it, claiming from the other drivers insurer. A car has hit and damaged my garden fence. How do I claim? Do I write directly to his insurer? I have his details. There is a scrape to my car bumper, which I need to see in daylight. If it is bad enough to want to claim, will I need to claim separately, or will my insurer be able to claim from his for the damage to my car and to the fence?

If you have the details of his insurance company, contact them directly. Get a quote for the repair of the fence (they'll probably just settle that with a cheque or bank transfer). With the car, get 2 quotes but they may offer to take it into one of their garages to repair it.1
