Hiding electrical cables for spot lights in garden

Hi,

I would like to install spot lights in my back garden to shine onto the rockery.

What is the best way to prepare the wiring for this so the wires are hidden? Should I lift up some grass and bury the cables under the grass, and if so, how deep under the grass should the cables go? It needs to be deep enough so the lawn mower won't make contact with them.

Finally, what's the best way to supply power? Should I get an outdoor 3 pin power supply? And where should the spot light on/off timer ideally be situated - indoor or outdoors?

Thanks

Are you seriously considering running live unprotected cables just 'under the grass' as is implied in your post?
Are you aware that this work is notifiable?
I suggest that you get a qualified electrician in to do this.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Indeed remember those two horses that were electrocuted in the paddock at Newbury racecourse.

The cables have to properly insulated for your safety and for everyone else who would be in the garden.

I won't be doing this myself - so I'll get a qualified electrician to do this. I've had solar lights before but they are useless in the winter so low voltage is the way I want to go.

i use old scaffold tubes to run my cables through, to the shed or the garage. (usually free).
not much chance of a spade going through them.
    Get some gorm.
