am after a cheap, powerful desktop to browse the web, and do word and excel and have a few things running at the same time, is this from Ebuyer any good?

Any it has no operating system? I've just bought office 2010, can i load that straight onto it? If not (dont know if office 2010 is operating software - sorry), how do i get an operating system on it, and at what cost?
Thanks in advance

It's not bad at all but it needs an operating system, eg windows7, loading which could cost £70-80.0

Its will be fine for what you want to do as its a moderate spec but more then easily capable of handling several programs.
As for operating system you would have to use windows 7 to run office 2010 as XP/Visata arent available. which is about £70-£200 depending on which one you go for.
The alternative is one of the linux systems Ubuntu being the easiest to use and using open office instead.
All you would literally do is boot up from disk then install as the screen requests.0 -
You don't need a powerful desktop to surf the web and run MS Office, any modern dektop PC will do this with ease.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Just thought it seemed a godo price for the spec? Want to have a few IE windows open at the same time, wasnt sure whether its the 8Gb RAM or the 3.2GHz that helps with several sites running at the same time?
Also, I already have a monitor and keyboard etc, wasnt sure how cheap a new desktop/tower would be?
Thanks again0 -

I've seen several brand new Windows OS on Ebay (XP and Vista I think - would these be safe to buy?) for between £40 and £80 ish, but also the Ubunta you mentioned for a few pounds, if I load Ubunta onto it, will i be able to find my way round it easily enough? (I use windows at work every day and Vista on my laptop at home)
Thanks again0 -
It has 4GB RAM. NOT 8. 32 bit OS will only recognise 3.5GB anyway.
What OS are you intending to install on it?-I certainly wouldn't take up their offer of Vista Basic. So you are looking at Windows 7 which will be around £115 for the full edition (not upgrade). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
That machine easily has the spec to support web browsing and Office.
A 32-bit version of Windows 7 will do fine. If you want more than 3.5GB then you'll need the 64-bit version of Windows 7, but I wouldn't worry about it.0 -

As long as they have the appropriate licensing certificates from microsoft then there shouldnt be a problem.
Ubuntu you can actually download for free and fairly easy to use, you may want to consider downloading and using it from disc on your current pc to see if you like it or not.

You are encouraged to download, copy, and use Ubuntu OS for free. It is legally licenced as software libre to protect its freedom which means you can legally do anything with it except keep its code secret.
It is pretty easy (unless you are an expert with Windows). If you have got expert at Windows then you will be learning again, which people find uncomfortable.0 -
BK forgot to ask
you said have to use Windows 7 as XP?Vista not available, do you mean its not available to buy anymore from microsoft? Or it wont work with Office 2010?0
