think I had to highlight the option to boot from CD drive and hit enter even though it was connected to USBEx forum ambassador

I'm not up to that, will have to take it to computer shop and see what they can do. Thanks
It'll cost you upwards of £50 in a pc shop.
Try this..

This was an answer on dell forums to not booting from drive:
You need to turn on USB Emulation in the BIOS if it's not already on.
How do I turn on usb emulation in BIOS? I can get into Bios but don't understand the USB emulation.0 -
If you have the option of removable device in the boot menu it should be fine. My Mini 10 is quite fussy about booting from CD/DVD. Try another bootable disc.0

I think it's under integrated devices - 3 options??0

If I f12 I get the boot menu:
+Hard drive
Network
CD/DVD/CD-RW
Removable Devices
Diagnostics
If I f2 I get the boot menu in set up utility:
USB storage
+Hard drive
Network
CD/DVD/CD-RW
Removable devices
I have selected CD/DVD/CD-RW in both neither worked; I have tried removable Devices in both didn't work; I have tried USB storage in f2 didn't work.
I am selecting them right i.e I select the option and f10 (save and exit)?
Nothing happens at all in disk drive.
I have run diagnostics from the f12 menu it says no problems.0 -
Have you got another computer to make a boot disc on?0
