Why do my MP3 players not show album pictures?

Windows 7 shows album pictures when plays albums which are saved as WMA tracks on my computer. However, I cannot see an image file in the folder despite trying the settings in Control Panel (there seem to be three files in the album folders that I cannot see). When I copy the albums onto my MP3 players (one Philips Gear Vibe, one Creative Zen X-Fi) the album pictures do not show. Any ideas why this is? How can I get the album covers to show on MP3 players?

Could be that they're a bit like my Archos, which rather than taking the picture directly from the actual audio file (which is encoded as part of the track - computer stuff which i kinda forget!) takes it from a seperate file in the album folder - generally the "first" image file it comes across, which is fine if you only have one in there, but i had fun checking all my folders one day when i realised that some of them i had the back cover as the images were "front" & "back" as opposed to "rear". So in short, try saving a picture of the album in the folder under the title "cover" - shouldn't be a large image or file & see how that works.

I'm not entirely sure , but I think if you save the album art as a jpg file called folder.jpg it should work.
  • The MP3 players don't seem to want to let me save .jpg files into the album folders.

The Creative player has a separate folder with .alb images in it. When I upload a new album from Windows 7 though it doesn't put an image in here and I am not sure how to do that, so maybe that is why the album images are not displayed. Perhaps I should download a program to manage the music, but really I just wanted to use Windows.

You need to tag your music and add the picture to each file...

It takes a while but is definitely worth it. Mp3Tag is the best, I find, and is free: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

As others have said, it's all to do with ID3 tags, which is part of the WMA file. One of the tags is album art.

You say that "Windows 7 shows album pictures when plays albums which are saved as WMA tracks on my computer." Do you mean playing back the music using Windows Media Player (WMP)?

Do your albums show the album art in the WMP library?

If the answer to both of these is yes then use WMP to Sync to your players. This works for me on my Creative Zen.

There are two ways of adding the album art. The first is to get a picture file and save it in the relevant directory. The second is to embed the image in every audio file.

Read the manuals for your MP3 players and see what they support.
