Hi,
closing price yesterday was 762p, so worth £762.
Are shares in certificate form or a nominee account?0 -
Also what is the best way to go about selling them?
The easiest way would be to phone the Santander Nominee Service, assuming that's where they're held.
If your mother acquired the shares through being a customer of a demutualised building society which was subsequently acquired by Santander (e.g. Alliance Leicester, Abbey) then that's almost certainly where they will be held. You will doubtless need a grant of probate to sell them.

They are in a nominee account.I am applying for probate as well.Wow they r worth a fair bit less than the last statement we have found. They were worth £1,053 in 2007.Ahhhh well.0

They are Spanish and spain has alot of debt worries. Santander themselves have more business abroad then they do actually in spain so it appears to be mislabelled as very risky.
They are actually massive in the UK obviously but also Brazil which has massive growth occurring, this is a global bank share like HSBC.
They are still worth the 2007 price I reckon, you just wont get paid that selling now unfortunately. Dividend is secure so far as I can tell
Use BNC if you want to look up the price. I believe they will have given you these but its possible you might have the spanish ones, probably not0 -
So if i put that they are worth £762 as of now in the probate forms will that be ok or is it better to wait for santander to write back to me with the value. Its the only thing holding us up now.0

Sorry for your loss. I went through probate 18months ago and found it a really daunting procedure. With hindsight I wish I hadn't fretted so much. It needs to be as accurate as possible so therefore it is the current value so I would state the figure given by frugalmacdugal in post #2. All the best.0

The value for probate is the value on the date of your mother's death.
Find the price in the column called "Close" here.0 -

That's not correct, the value for probate and inheritance tax purposes in the case of listed stocks and shares is always the value on the date of death.0 -
