external redecorating on Flats, how to progress

Hi we are a small residential association and need to have the external redcorating done, which would need scaffolding. We want to keep the costs down but want to ensure health & safety of any one working on the site/scaffolding, and ensure we have a good standard of work.
If we were to ask a registered company to erect the scaffolding and then get different companies to do the work. Some is painting & decorating, pointing, and some cladding work, would all the trades be covered for H&S, would we need to take out insurance or would that be the scaffolding company?
If one of the trades wasn't able to to the job in the alloted time would they be liable for the additional costs for the scaffolding or them?
Has anyone organised a big job in house and got any advice or questions that we should be asking?
Many thanks

all scaffolding companies must follow the rules eg HSE regs.
and all sub contractors will have their own insurance.
you will have to allow for the possibility of extra scaffolding time/expense due to force majeure. only.
you need to make sure any contract with any subby, stipulates the time factors.
but unforeseen events cannot always be covered. ie the weather.Get some gorm.0 -
Why don't you just get someone to quote for the whole job, including the hire of scaffolding. Then the cost of scaffolding would presumably be at the contractor's risk, and they would have every incentive to get the job done ASAP in order to keep the costs inside the budget. Actually, they may even have their own access equipment.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
You need to appoint one business as Main Contractor / Project Manager and state that they are responsible for compliance with Construction Design and Management Regulations.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

I have to agree with col, get one company to do the lot. ask if they can manage with a alloy tower, and if not most scaffolding co's only charge for erection and upto a given amount of time. (3-5 weeks), but in the current climate, get them to agree to a set fee with no additions if done within 6 months. Not many will sT NO.0
