Carers Allowance ??

My wife was made redundant last month and has had her claim for Jobseekers (C) rejected on the grounds that she has not paid a full two years of NI contributions - she had been made redundant from her previous job, and was on JS for a few months inbetween jobs - making her 2 months short of the 2 years .....
Myself - I am claiming DLA (mid - care) and working 16 hours per week - I was wondering if my wife could claim Carers Allowance instead ??

If she was on JSA for a couple of months, she would have had her NI credited so it wont be that.

Can you get her to check with them.

We have and apparently - notional NI is paid by DWP (for pension purposes) - not to allow continued claiming of JSA

Yes she can, but bear in mind it counts as income on any wtc claim.
  • Yes she can claim Carers Allowance as long as you continue to recieve middle rate care DLA and she can earn up to £100 per week without losing carers allowance but earn £101.01 and you lose the full weeks benefit. This will also mean that if youare claiming any means tested benefits ie housing and council tax benefit the earnings disregard is £20 per week. This will affect your award of Working tax credit as Carers Allowance is a taxable benefit and therefore fully taken into account when calculating your joint income. It is also worth noting backdating of up to 3 months is allowed without proving good cause so will be automatic if all criteria is met.

    Good luck
