Assuming you have Windows XP or later, the firewall that's built in is fine for most users. However, you need to have (IIRC) Service Pack 2 or later installed for it to be present.
If you have XP and you don't have the latest Service Pack installed, you should install it now - though you should get it (eventualy) via Windows Update anyway. If you have Vista or 7 it should be there already.0
