The Highways Agency just don't get it!

A vent really...

Driving out of London last night on the M4 I was met straight away with a 30mph speed limit. Normally the elevated section is a 40mph limit. Two miles later where the speed limit increases to the national limit, the signs went to 40mph, a full 30mph under the limit. Three miles later still no reason for the reduction. This is nearly midnight so not really that much on the road. Anyway, finally a sign appears saying the two inside lanes closed. So a full FIVE miles before the road works appeared a ridiculous speed resriction was in place. Needless to say as soon as drivers realised there was no incident after the first mile or so all of them crept up to the normal speed limit. Of course when confronted with the actual incident, everyone is speeding. If the reduction was put in place say a mile before the roadworks surely this would be safer as most drivers wouldn't have given up creeping along for miles on end. This also happens on the M25 a lot in the middle of the night with hardly any traffic on the road where signs put the limit down to 60mph and then suddenly, for no reason clear again.

I'm going to have a lie down..........

The Highways agency patrols get bored and Power Hungry.. they`ll close a road for half an hour just to remove a piece of rubber.
  • On the other hand.

Witness the huge minority of drivers that can see just beyond their own bonnet, and will hurtle lemming like with their cohorts at breakneck speed oblivious to anything that's beyond their vision limit..ie the bonnet's edge.

Those HA people and the Wombles as they are known probably would like to go home at the end of their shift, if they hold drivers up for 30 seconds for a mile whilst they have to amble along at 30 instead of their normal flat out then who cares really.

If people learned to drive their cars competently (not slowly necessarily) instead of aiming them, the HA and others wouldn't need to nanny them.
