Insurance approved mechanic left my partners van a death trap

My questions asking what failed and what work has not been completed fully. NOT answered.
You instead sidestepped these questions by saying any part can fail. Yet no mention of what failed and why it failed.
I was only asking as maybe the items your claiming have not been repaired properly were not touched by the garage during
the course of the repair. And may have been faulty when you purchased the vehicle.
I think you are confusing the OP with Shaun of A;). The OP hasn't been back yet.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I assume that this comment was meant for me, as I was the one who stated that any part can fail.
Well, how can I possibly answer your question ("You instead sidestepped these questions") when I'm not the person who owns the car, have never seen the car, and am not the opening poster?.
He/she hasn't been back since their first post, and I was only stating that it's wrong to make assumptions about the state of the vehicle without knowing a few facts first.0 -

All I did was to state a fact that any mechanical component can fail without warning despite servicing or maintenance being carried out.
Lack of maintenance may have caused the steering to fail, or it may have been something that was totally unforseen & unpreventable, and without seeing an engineers report, there is no way for anyone on this board to know what caused the failure.
I was simply saying that it was wrong to automatically assume that , especially when that particular comment was coming from someone who on a different thread was getting very annoyed when people were making assumptions about lorry drivers without knowing the full facts.
Sorry, confusion on my part, speed reading and taking you as the OP,
They were gulible if they bought a duffer and then had it incorrectly repaired, And taking it the Quark Fit wasn't too smart a move either;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

No probs, I often get mistaken for other people.
It's so blerdy annoying trying to explain to people that I am not Brad Pitt!
Did you see the latest Watchdog snippet about them? And taking it the Quark Fit wasn't too smart a move either

I used to take my cars there for a quick and easy oil + filter change, but never again.0 -
oops, what can i say, 3am and tablets not working..
Apologies... I did think the OP had replied.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
How would you know he didn't give a toss?! A bit presumptuous methinks! Actually in the two years he has had the van it was serviced regularly and had not long passed it's MOT.
I take it you are a mechanic with that attitude!?0 -
Blimey, i was simply asking for other users advice and experience of the same type of incident... I have been away this weekend & not had chance to reply - and you lot have just got carried away arguing with each other.
Let me get this straight: he maintains his van regularly, but felt that the steering snapping may have been due to the cold weather or something and could've happened any time. He has been on the phone to the original mechanic & this guy has admitted that maybe the hub nut from the NSF wheel was not tightened properly & it was part of the work that was carried out during the repairs.
Lets face it, I don't think this'll be the first time people have regularly had their vehicles maintained & repaired at gargaes (due to accident / fault or whatever) and the service has been less than great.
Human error is all very well & good, but on a vehicle that someone drives at speed, should they not be a bit more careful?
Calm down guys...0 -

Don't worry there are plenty of people on this board who can start a fight in an empty room.;)

So how did the original crash occur?
Sounds highly dubious to me. Worth noting the insurer would only fix the accident damage and not any underlying damage due to wear and tear. Sounds to me like it is equally possible this stuff was knackred from the start.
As for kwik fit. Did the person even have a full mechanical qualification. Probably some Minimum wage technician who is told every car has dodgy brakes or exhaust. If the car was such a death trap how come it lasted 2 months?
What are the faults? Let me guess. Kwik Fit just happened to do these repairs.......0
