  • Sorry but I was not complaining/asking for advice about my daughter on here so can we please stick to my original question rather than people jumping into often very wrong conclusions?

I am asking for ideas for ONE person shopping/food, as simple as that.
This is nothing to do with anyone else - I am asking for myself and appreciate relevant replies.

    Thanks
  • If I have any money left over it goes into the car - running, insuring and taxing it I mean. I have eight pounds to last me now till payday (10th of Jan) so I am getting very anxious how I am going to pay for petrol. My bank stopped my gas dd as I didnt have enough in to pay it. I work nearly full time (30 hrs a week), my health is shot at and with no money I feel very very stressed and anxious all the time.

So - take note of all our posts (mine arent helpful but the thought is there) and good luck and BE POSITIVE!!!

Well, asking for a breakdown as to what the budget has to cover is relevant, as are dietary restrictions, preferences and limitations. For example if you had only to buy food out the £65 it would be very easy for you but if you can only allocate £15 or £10 for food, just say that.

I have a menu planner I could send you? It is a first draft and I am just about to re-vamp it to make it cheaper (not that is it expensive now), but it will be very restrictive for you as I am a vegetarian. My top tip is to skip meat in a few meals if you can bear to as veggie is almost always cheaper :) - things like chick peas are very versatile! Also veggie mince is a lot cheaper than meat mince (I think it is anyway) and you may not notice the difference too much depending on how much you like your meat!

Also check the reduced sections first and ONLY buy repalcement items/what you wanted anyway to save money. Also shop just before they close to get bargain bread etc. which you can bulk buy and freeze.

Hope some of this helps :)

  • Mrs Stressed - sorry to hear this, hope you get through till your pay day although it scares the hell out of me looking at the £8 and 10th Jan.

I was working till 30th November, all very new to me and need to learn how to manage this very little money before I hopefully find another job in the New Year.

I do not have a car .. but still to get out and buy anything - need to pay for a bus so still have to/will have to find money.

But this thread is purely about shopping/food etc for ONE person and I do not want to mix anythign else in here - I had a look at the forum and see all about large families where obviously buying in bulk is an option and cheaper but not much for a single person, that is why I started it.

    Thanks
  • I am only on JSA since 1st December so that £65 per week only applies since then.

It is supposed to be for all my expenses.. no idea how much of it will be left for food (if anything) but obviously I am looking to find the cheapest possible options for myself - that does not include white bread, white flour, white pasta and white rice... sigh....
  • VL2588 - that would be great... thanks a lot.

Like lentils of all sorts and may try to skip meat for most of the week...

I sincerely hope you get another job sooner rather than later. I live off potatoes, cheap bread, cheap bacon, cabbages and am red hot at making soups which last for three days at least.

You will manage as it can be done. I cant give you menus as I never follow them anyway. I look at anything for a £1 and under...so making up stuff as I go along.

    I hate the word BUDGET!

    Take care
