Me! I've just come out of a relationship and I've never lived on my own so this is a steep learning curve. Cooking for one is hard when you've always been used to cooking for two (or more!)
I've found it take a lot more organisation when it comes to meal plans and shopping. But I'm loving having full control of the remote, reading what I want when I want and a lovely double bed to lounge in!0 -
I tend to get fresh fruit and veg from Aldi or Lidl (using the weekly specials where I can), use their pasta, rice and noodles too, and then meat from the butcher. Honestly, I can whip up a meal about as fast as it takes to stand staring at a stack of uninspiring plastic tubs, working out which one to ding in the microwave.
I spend so much less than I did at Tesco, and aiming for those £30 spend vouchers really is a false economy unless you can bulk it out with non-perishables.
I really like the fact that if I don't move it, it stays there. Sometimes. I like knowing where to find everything, but dear god, the mess. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Ok so far this week have spent £25 (from Monday) including petrol (£20), went through my cupboards and realised that I needed very little except fruit. Only 3 days to go so think I'm going to treat myself to some wine this evening (truth is I do this every Friday :-D)0

It's a shame no one has posted in years, this is an excellent thread!
I technically don't live alone as I flatshare with 2 others but I buy and cook just for myself. My rent/bills are fixed so things like saving money by switching utilities suppliers etc don't apply to me!
My main issue is watching what I spend on groceries/toiletries/getting a coffee at the station at 6am on the way to work... it all adds up and I've a short timeframe to clear my debts!
I'd set myself £60 for the month for my groceries but discovered I had £55 worth of saino's points to use! Wooo!Credit Card Debt:[STRIKE]£12991[/STRIKE] £12526

Have been a long time lurker on these boards and love the OS forums. Found this thread by accident after some enforced time off work due to sciatica and deciding to do an empty the cupboards/freezer kind of month. I too am single, been that way for a very long time(through choice/lack of men that dont pee me off lol). I hate cooking, hate fruit and veg and end up having everything on bread or toast. I also want to lose some weight. So i've taken the plunge and done some cooking, however because i'm rubbish at working out portions, i've now got shares in lentil and tomato soup and lamb mince pasta bake. My freezer is full to bulging but as lovely as what i've made is, i dont want to eat it for the next 10 days for every meal. My larder is also crammed full and even though i've done a clear out of the things that were over 12 months old, there is still an awful lot of stuff in there. Help guys, i need inspiration!0
