Hi all, can i pick your brains...
We need to learn Japanese (written as well as spoken). However on looking at lesson prices to reach the required level of fluency it’s going to be VERY expensive.
So me and the other half brainstormed..... and the only thing we have is space, a spare lovely double room in a large quaint and comfy cottage. So we were hoping to offer a free room to a Japanese speaking lodger in exchange for lessons.
I have popped an ad on gumtree but where else would you list this to gain the maximum exposure?
Regards,
Tyger

You're looking for ideas on where to advertise your (free) sublet of a room, where you're letting the house as a whole?0
-
Yes. As stated, our Landlord (a Trust) has no issues with 'subletting' as long as we are not being paid for the room & they have advised this in writing.
Kind regards,

Have you any language schools nearby or universities.
Another good route is exchange students.
Ring and ask
Ha ha above poster beat me to it0 -
Thanks!
I was thinking of web sites rather than the communities themselves. So thanks for the lateral thinking

I think you missed something rather crucial out in your original post which is why you want to let your room out - is it to a lodger who is fluent in Japanese??0
-
carefullycautious - Sadly no to the language schools - that’s why we needed a tutor rather than just taking classes.
The local (ish) Uni were less than helpful and basically palmed us off. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -

You misunderstand. EFL language schools. Japanese students come to UK to learn English. Where do they live? Oh, in rooms let out by English families in return for (usually) cash, but could be in exchange for J lessons.
Local university not cooperative? But they'll have a notice board or 3. Just stick up an ad (prefeably written in Japanese!). Or ask the students union for the name of the president of the Japanese Society. Or get friendly with ANY student and get access to the university/union intranet where you place an ad (or ask them to place it for you).0 -
Probably not much help to you, but a Japanese friend of mine works with Japanese families who have come over to the UK because they work at Honda. If there does happen to be a company with strong Japanese links near you, it might be worth looking into.0
