Archos Clipper Question

I have just bought my wife an Archos Clipper MP3 player from PC World and am trying to charge it (it runs on internal USB powered rechargeables) - does anyone have any idea as to how long this should take - from (presumably) flat/new ?
The (multi language) instruction leaflet doesn't say....

All depends on battery capacity and the charge rate (which won't be any more than 500mA from a USB port).

I have a headphone amplifier that I use with my phone (because I'm fed up with nanny dictating how loud I can play my music), and that takes 3 hours to charge via laptop USB, but I can do it in an hour when I use an old Motorola phone charger that we still have.

Archos themselves don't give a charge time in the specs, but according to "Which" it takes 3.5 hours for a full charge to be achieved.

Note that the faster you charge a battery, the shorter it's lifespan.
The ideal charge rate for a battery is one tenth of it's Ah capacity, so if your battery has a capacity of 1500 mAh then you should charge it for 10 hours at 150mA to achieve the 1000 cycle discharge/recharge lifespan.

Me too! I don't know if it's the same with all players, but when switched on for the very first time, do not select Europe as your area. U.S., Asia or similar will ensure you can reach ear damaging volume levels.

Unfortunately the phone in question was destined for the EU, and the volume level is locked down in the firmware.

I'm sure it's just as easy to replace the relevant system files that dictate volume levels and sound enhancements on my current handset as it was on my old K800i, but for the sake of £12 on Amazon it was much easier to buy a portable headphone amp that delivers 150mW per channel in to a 16 ohm load.

Ditching the standard SE earpiece for a pair of BeyerDynamic DTS 60's completes the picture perfectly.
Tinnitus in less than 1 minute is easily achieved when listening to the bagpipe solo in AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top" with the above setup :D

Press and hold the play button.

This Archos Clipper is rubbish - it keeps on either freezing or refusing to switch off - sometimes both !!
And the reset switch appears to do nothing (pressing for 10 secs +)
I wish now, that I had spent a bit more and bought a decent MP3 player - I have raised a service call with Archos !!

You may be right - but £15 is £15 and I expect it to actually last longer than a month !!
