try both of these, and backup all your important data to dvd. So you will have 3 copies on different media in case something goes wrong
one will backup all your files (assuming you have an admin account), and one will do a disk image, in case the restore process doesn't work. Check that your data is on the external disk before restoring
Use factory restore partition to do the reinstall (if you have one), it's much faster
Way too advanced for me, I'm having trouble mastering the external hard drive:(:(:(:(0 -
there is nothing to master, it's just a disk, and nothing complicated about backing up, launch software, backup from c to e?, done!!

yes, they are backup software.
install shadow copy.
create a directory called backup on your portable hard disk
use shadow copy to backup from
c:
to
portableharddisk:\backup (eg e:\backup if it's e: )
make sure copy subdirectories is ticked!!

Backed up (I think).
Thought it would be easy to wipe & restart from clean.
Haven't a clue what to do!!!:o:o
I really am useless with my PC:o:o0 -
You need to check the files are backed up before continuing, and I would recommend a second copy to dvd at least, and preferably a disk image (macrium reflect) in case things go wrong.
How to reinstall windows depends on the model, and method (disc or restore partition).
google your machine + factory restore!!

To put that price into context, I just bought a 2TB USB drive for £80 (£79.95) at Currys today.0
