Budget are ripping me off?

My home insurance last year was £156, this year the quote came in at £235.98, over a 50% increase. I rang them up and they at first didn't want to tell me how much I pad last year until I pressured them to do so.
I was on "auto renewal" so I'm guessing that they just wanted to slip this one by without me doing anything.
Is there anything I can do?
I have not made any claims and nothing has changed.
The unapologetic moron who answered the phone told me that the reason the price has gone up and that other people have made claims... when I told him I didn't want to renew my policy, he actually said "Suit yourself".
Any ideas anyone?

Make sure that they do act on your instructions - confirm them in writing (use recorded delivery), and ask them to confirm they have received your instructions.
Then shop around.0 -

If you don't like the renewal you ask them to make it cheaper.
If you still don't like what's on offer, take your business elsewhere.
I don't really understand what the problem is.
Friendly sort aren't you
Mind you, I expect you talk to a lot of people in the same patronizing manner.0 -

He's right though.
Pot and kettle spring to mind, its really not nice to call people
'morons' when they are just doing their job.
Easiset way is just go onto one of the comparison sites and take it from there.
Im with the coop and pay about £200 for buildings and contents.
I dont think they are on any comparison sites so maybe worth a try.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Rates are going up for insurance, this has been posted about 100x over... Your also not obliged to insure with Budget if your not happy with the price, you can take your buisness to another company? Problem solved.0 -

He is right. He is also British not American.
Then again, you don't seem to be a "friendly sort" as you refer to someone that you don't know as a moron in your first post.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). But moaning about the bloke in the call centre and calling him names benefits nobody. He doesn't set the premium rates, does he?
So you asked a straight question - and I gave you a straight answer that, if you follow it, will get you the best available premium.
What else did you expect? Some sort of manly hug?0 -
I had the same thing happen with Budget, my insurance went up by £80 even though I hadn't claimed. Oddly enough, when using a comparison site Budget were cheapest so I phoned and asked for this price rather than my renewel price. Of course, computer says no:mad:. The only way I could do it was to cancel my renewel and then take out the policy again through the comp site, went with another insurer in the end as the quote wasn't that much more expensive than Budget.0

They shoved mine up about 1/3rd I rang them up in late December just before renewal time to stop auto renewal I went with M&S and got it cheaper than last years before the jump and got £30 cashback
It pays to shop around never go back as old customer the discounts are for new customers0
