How to prove whether a car engine self destructed

I put my car into a garage to have the timing belt replaced. Drove the car into the workshop. Garage phoned to say that there was a problem replacing timing belt as a "key" was missing. He would try to release bolts to continue. Next phone call was that the engine:( was damaged beyond repair. Garage offered to replace the engine with a reconditioned engine est cost over £1000 or he would buy it from me for £100.

Had the car removed to AC and they said that the timing belt has slipped and damaged the engine. First garage now says that the car engine self destructed after being driven a few feet. At the Diet of Proof in sheriff he produced an expert witness (someone with an interest in cars). Onus on me now to produce an expert witness for next Diet of Proof. Next twist is that the expert witness has now declared himself a witness to my car engine self destructing (7 months later).

How do I prove that the timing belt slipped? Renault Clio 1.5 diesel, 7 and a half years old with 42,000.

You got your answer a few days ago on your other thread...
The only way to prove exactly what happened would be to get an indepandant expert to examine both the engine and cam belt that is currently fitted and see what they say.
In fact you thanked that post.
