UK vs Oz flight prices
Comments
-
have the prices you are comparing been based on you looking for prices here in the UK. sometimes, flights are cheaper if booked in the country of departure - in this case Oz. Perhaps get your folks out there to go round a few travel agencies to get some quotes, and then check if they can use your card in the UK to pay for the flights in Oz. (some will, some wont - need to check, or even do a money transfer
We have family in Perth who come back here every summer and this is essentially what they do.
BTW I would consider Air Asia as a last resort, no frills, no food, no leg room alternative.0 -

They do food, book online for a very low price.

No seat back TV's on Air Asia X (not Air Asia to OZ) but you can hire a tablet film player for peanuts.

Once on-board they are much like any other airline but with prettier and more helpful staff than many, (the girls that is!)

Check out their legroom statistics against economy on most other airlines you may be surprised. Look at seatguru.com compare with Malaysian Airlines perhaps.
I've used them dozens of times including to OZ a few times.

Oh, and show me another airline that would take me to Melbourne and back
last winter for under £400 (via KL, includes cost of hotel in KL)0 -

I have. Malaysian Airlines have the best legroom in class, Air Asia the worst. Parents-in-law used Air Asia to get to Oz. They weren't impressed with anything... apart from the price. Which was good.
I'm 6'4" so it's no brainer.0 -

I can see the problem with ANY economy cabin seat if you're over 1.9 metres tall but here are the figures from seat guru for the A330's
You say "Parents-in-law used Air Asia to get to Oz", so with all due respect I guess that YOU have never used them. Also it is worth pointing out that Air Asia
fly around Asia and Air Asia X are their long haul arm, two very different sets of planes.

You are correct, I have never used Air Asia. Despite my in-law's low opinion of the airline, I nevertheless checked it out as I'm never keen to spend money if it's not necessary. With Air Asia I had to pay extra for food, entertainment, luggage and the leg room is poorer. I still stand by what I said in the earlier post... I would consider Air Asia as a last resort, no frills, no food, no leg room alternative.0
