I work part time in the NHS and get HRM . DLA helps me to stay in work ( with adjustments made to my job ) and to use my skills and eperience.

    What is your job?

Its relevant for a DLA claim, DLA can be claimed while you work but your job must not be at odds with your disability for example you cant work at a job rhe requires you to stand for extended periods if you want to claim HRMC

I have a desk job so no standing / walking etc...other than to get to my desk in the morning. Nevertheless, I do need to move at intervals because I get stiff and sore. Fortunately my neck / spine problems are affecting my left side atm and I'm right handed :)

Mrs Arcanum, thanks for your comments...you are clearly someone who understands the frustrations!
  • You are welcome to a shiny new automatic car - you can have my diseases, pain and life prognosis too... I'd trade you any day.

Thanks but no thanks. I already have a shiny new BMW that I bought out of savings.

And for your info I too have debilitating conditions that play havoc with my mobility and have care needs. Two of these conditions are life threatening also.
I work full time, and look to my own resources for what I need and not expect the state to bail me out.

Maybe that is why I object to people who see the state as a first point of call when something goes wrong in their lives. Some of that money that they pay out is what I have paid in and am still paying in in large quantities!

So from one disabled employee to another, look to yourself first!

For the DDA, now the Equalities act being disabled is self declaring, have you asked access to work for help with your workstation and for transport to work for now while you claim DLA?

They provide heavily subsidised taxis for some disabled people in work, they can also help to make you as comfportable as possible while you work.

I have a suitable workstation. As for a taxi to work - I work 75 miles away from where I live :) - hence the difficulties with driving. I'm working a short term contract two hours drive from home so I stay in digs nearby from Monday to Thursday and work from home on a Friday. Unfortunately, with my medical history (viz previous time off work with operations) I struggle to find an employer who will take me on.

As for sonorman, I have a reasonably new (viz three year old 30k miles on the clock) and shiny Toyota Auris that I worked and paid for. It wouldn't need changing but for my mobility problems.

I might have guessed you drove a BMW - it suits your arrogant attitude.....

ignore the idiot im :mad:after reading this post,i hope and pray that you get your dla and spanking new car,YOU ARE ENTITLED TO IT,i think thats its brilliant that you can do work considering your disabilities, only somebody driving flash cars would have an attitude like that, stuck up git!!theres lots of people out there would love to feel normal, not have to rely on benefits, then theres ones like yourself who work but need an extra helping hand to stay in that position, this forum site seems to be full of ignorant people which is why i dont use it,sometimes i come in for a look, today this made me mad so i replied, pity it was only just for that and not some good advice on any help i need, luckily i can get that elsewhere on another forum, hastobe katt i do hope you get your car in the end fight for it ;)
