East Coast trains

I booked 8 day return tickets from Leeds to London on Sunday May 8th all on one booking delivered in one envolope on one credit card transaction at a cost of £266. This was for a football match but the football league have brought all the fixtures forward a day!!!.
So I had a look at changing the tickets. But East Coast will only allow me to change the outbound and inbound seperately. They also charge an admin fee of £10 per ticket per journey giving a total adin charge of £160.The outbound journey would cost another extra £52 and thats when I stopped looking.
It was cheaper to rebook.

I suspect you booked a cheap advance purchase ticket hence all the extra cost. No different if you booked an Easyjet or Ryanair flight. Cheap equals inflexible.

Its no excuse though for charging 16 seperate admin fees for what was one booking.

    Sixteen tickets for sixteen journeys.

    East Coast's website says...
For each change that you make, you will have to pay an additional charge, up to the appropriate fare for your new journey, plus a change fee of £10 per single ticket.

Will the football league help you with the cost? ;)

OP...Suggest you try escalating and/or complsining to Elaine Holt, East Coast Trains Chief Executive, via sending her an email to elaine.holt@directlyoperatedrailways.co.uk.

You may get a result and good luck.

Why should she do anything about something that is in their T&Cs?

  • Perhaps Ms Holt is capable of taking a decision outside the terms and conditions.

Such initiative is frowned upon in many areas of business life, but it does still exist.

perhaps she isnt because she works for you dear taxpayer. And its her responsibility to try her best to get you from A to B on the time that she has sold you a massively discounted ticket.

It is not her responsibility to get the football league to adhere to a 3 PM kick off

    Well worked out.

What you or I think she should do, or think she will do, matters not a jot.

We are not making the decision, she is.

The OP has been charged a fair few quid to change the booking, and I think it's worth an ask.

I was correctly charged a £12 late payment fee on my credit card, after the statement turned up late due to the recent bad weather.

The card company refunded the payment when I asked them, even though it had been correctly applied under their terms and conditions.
  • That has no relevance to the thread this is not a late payment charge. Advance tickets come with restrictions. These are told to you before you buy and when you buy.

Unlucky is the phrase that comes to mind
