As Arthritis can effect each joint differently that is possible. Unless you are a Doctor and have examined the person you're in no position to Judge what this persona can or cannot do.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

Like the bit about going to thailand as massage can be arranged at reasonable cost0

I don't suffer from osteoarthritis, but I have joint problems and find (well, found until my bike was nicked) that cycling was a really good exercise for my knees and back because it promotes core stability and is low impact.
People often assume that if you have back or neck problems, the best job to get is one sitting down, but that's sometimes the worst thing. I had a nightmare finding a job that allowed me to sit down if I needed to and move around when I need to. Standing still or sitting cause me much more pain than walking about.
I can see why the person cycled, and why his ability to cycle doesn't mean he can work in any old job... but it doesn't explain why he ignored the question, so I don't have much sympathy for him...am envious though...i'd love that kind of money.0 -
I suspect that this is one of those cases where the claimant was offered a fairly decent sum - £18k - but decided to press on with a ridiculous claim. He represented himself whereas I think even an Injury Lawyers 4 U type company would have advised him to take the £18k. The judge quite rightly in my opinion felt he was taking the p a bit with claims for "a two-month trip to Thailand in January 2007 for "extensive massage" and £41,917 for ready meals".
"He also dismissed a "highly speculative" claim for £300,000 which allegedly represented a lost chance to develop game software for in-flight entertainment which Mr Spektor said Qantas was interested in."
The guy had a pre-existing condition and whilst it does sound as if the LU worker was very much in the wrong using physical force, a claim for £1m was completely disproprtionate to the injury and distress. Good judge he didn't have a legal team to pay.0 -
