skoda fabia with leaking seals

The car salesman saw me coming! :(

Anyway, it's a 51 plate, 5 door. Carpets very wet at the rear when raining etc...sometimes the front also, but can't tell if it's the seal or the water running through from the back. Found out after I bought it.

Can anyone tell me if I can do a DIY job of fixing it? Or if it has to be done by a garage, the likely cost, please?

I know nothing about cars, and seem to have bought a dud. (coolant appears to be getting low, very quickly for instance).

Possible the interior heater is leaking coolant into the car?

£20 - £60 an hour to trace the leak and replace any seals, Plus the cost of parts.

On a dry day take it along to a garage with a jetwash, Get someone inside to watch each panel as you
spray the water around the edges.

Badly fitted screens also leak, Window & door seals, Sometimes trim fittings can cause water to enter the
car instead of draining off. Antenna?

After checking on a SKoda forum, try looking in the pollen filter box, see if is full of debris and crud?

This will cause it to fill with water, which will exit through the flaps in the front....

The other option is the door seal rubbers.

If it's anything like other VAG motors, you will need to check the pollen filter housing (as mentioned), the sunroof leak-off pipes (if it has one!), the window regulator seals and the windscreen (if it has been replaced from new).

If the coolant keeps running low the odds are its the heater matrix leaking in to the footwell, which can be quite a labour intensive job to do on some cars .

    Doubt it's the matrix.

OP mentions the carpets are only wet when it rains, and matrix's aren't a common problem with VAG like other brands. The smell would be quite obvious, and shouldn't make it to the rear seats unless it's leaking into the vent pipes to the rear seats, or in from the rear.

Unlikely to be the heater matrix or pollen filter unless these are fitted at the rear in Skodas? Equally sun roof drains tend to run towards the front.

    Rear door/window seals are possiibles.

My Mk4 Golf had a sunroof drain off pipe blocked and because it backed up into the car it filled the rear footwell.

Fair enough, maybe a possiblity then. Do we actually know if it has a sunroof?
