UnPaid Gas

I changed my gas and electric supplier last august, I have been paying by direct debit since and have only accessed the bills on line this month. I now realise that my new supplier is only supplying electric. My previous supplier provided both gas and electric and that is what i cancelled with them in the summer and have a letter from them explaining that they have stopped supplying me electric and gas. I have no gas bill now since august for which one of the companies is supplying gas. If it is the company that I cancelled and they confirmed cancelling by letter that i still have, am i obliged to pay them?
